Anatomy of a Hybrid How FutureSight Consulting Got it All Published Tue, Apr 17, 2007 at 8:59 AM FutureSight Consulting wanted it all in their new website. They wanted the rich user experience of Flash, combined with the extreme "Google-ability" and the broad accessibility of a standards-based HTML interface. And they wanted it to coalesce around a coherent maturation of their brand that would transform them from a small boutique consultancy to a B2B marketing tour de force. Oh, and they wanted all of this content to be dynamically managed via Pier's reachCMS!
Pier recommended a hybrid solution that would bring together the best of two different web worlds - Adobe Flash and standards-based XHTML/CSS. Strategic implementation of Flash throughout the site would enhance usability and brand impact where it was necessary. The Flash content, however, needed to be delivered in two formats, one for site visitors and one for search engines so as to maintain FutureSight's footing in the SEO race. The rest of the site would take on a strict web standards structure in order to optimize the content for search engines and a broader base of users and devices. The site was then brought into Pier's reachCMS product - a new kind of content management system designed around the hybrid paradigm. Itself a Flash-based RIA, reachCMS delivers content to Flash interfaces, standard HTML interfaces, as well as a host of server-side environments like PHP, ColdFusion, and ASP. The content is also repurposed in standard RSS format, and rich text format for search engines. This new content management concept goes a long way toward bridging the gap between rich, interactive user experiences, and standards-based, search optimized, database-driven websites.
